    • Excluded from being of God’s people (2:12)
    • Strangers to God’s covenants of promise (2:12)
    • Having no hope (2:12)
    • Without God in this world (2:12)
    • Far off [from relationship with God] (2:13)
  • Now
    • Have been brought near by Christ’s blood (2:13)
    • One with God’s people and of His promises (2:14)
    • Reconciled to God (2:16)
    • Have access in one Spirit to the Father (2:18)
    • No longer strangers to God & His people (2:19)
    • No longer aliens apart from God’s household (2:19)
    • Fellow citizens with the saints [holy ones] (2:19)
    • Of God's household (2:19)
    • A dwelling built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets (2:20)
    • Are being joined closely together (2:21)
    • Growing into a holy temple (2:21)
    • Are being built together into a dwelling place for God in the Spirit (2:22)

  • Subject to Christ (5:24)



  • Loved by Christ (5:25)
  • Sanctified by Christ (5:26)
  • Cleansed by His truth (5:26)
  • No spot or wrinkle (5:27)
  • Holy and blameless (5:27)

  • Nourished by Christ (5:29)































    Those who:
  • Do not wrestle against flesh & blood (6:12)
  • Wrestle against rulers, powers & world forces of darkness (6:12)
  • Wrestle against spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavens (6:12)



























  • By a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God … know what is the: (1:17-19)
    • Hope of His calling
    • Riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints
    • Surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe

























  • Remember these things (2:12)






















  • Be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man (3:16)
  • Let Christ dwell in your hearts through faith (3:17)
  • Be rooted and grounded in love (3:17)
  • Comprehend with all the saints the breadth and length and height and depth [of God’s love for you] (3:18)
  • Know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge (3:19)
  • Be filled up to the fullness of God (3:19)


  • Given this – walk: (4:1-3)
    • In a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called
    • With all humility
    • With all gentleness
    • With patience
    • Showing tolerance for one another in love
    • Being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace
  • Equip the saints for the work of the ministry (4:12)
  • Build up the body of Christ (4:12)
  • Attain to: (4:13)
    • The unity of the faith
    • The knowledge of the Son of God
    • Mature manhood
    • The measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ
  • No longer be children tossed here and there by waves and carried about by: (4:14)
    • Every wind of doctrine
    • The trickery of men
    • Craftiness in deceitful scheming
  • Speak truth in love (4:15)
  • Grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ (4:15)
  • Build one another up in love by what every joint supplies (4:16)
  • No longer walk as [unbelievers] walk: (4:17-19)
    • In the futility of the mind
    • Darkened in understanding
    • Excluded from the life of God
    • Full of ignorance
    • Hard of heart
    • Having becoming callous
    • Given over to sensuality
    • Practicing every kind of impurity with greediness
  • Lay this [the old self] aside (4:22)
  • Be renewed in the spirit of your mind (4:23)
  • Put on the new self (4:24)


  • Lay aside falsehood (4:25)
  • Speak truth with your neighbor (4:25)
  • Be angry, yet do not sin (4:26)
  • Do not let the sun go down on your anger (4:26)
  • Do not give the devil an opportunity (4:27)
  • If you steal, steal no longer, but rather labor with your own hands (4:28)
  • Share with one who has need (4:28)
  • Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth (4:29)
  • Only speak what is good for building up one another according to the need of the moment so that grace will be given to those who hear (4:29)
  • Do not grieve the Holy Spirit (4:30)
  • Put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander and malice (4:31)
  • Be kind to one another (4:32)
  • Be tender-hearted (4:32)
  • Forgive each other just as Christ also has forgiven you (4:32)
  • Be imitators of God (5:1)
  • Walk in love just as Christ loved you and gave himself up for us (5:2)


  • Let not be named among you: (5:3-4)
    • Immorality
    • Any impurity
    • Greed
    • Filthiness
    • Silly talk
    • Coarse jesting
  • Let there be among you giving of thanks (5:4)
  • Let no one deceive you with empty words (5:6)
  • Do not be partakers of them [immoral, impure, covetous, idolatrous sons of disobedience] (5:7)
  • Walk as children of the Light (5:8)



  • Discern what is pleasing in the Lord (5:10)
  • Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but expose them (5:11)
  • Be careful how you walk, not as unwise but wise (5:15)
  • Make the most of your time because the days are evil (5:16)
  • Do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is (5:17)
  • Do not get drunk with wine, but be filled with the Spirit (5:18)
  • Speak to one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (5:19)
  • Always give thanks for all things to God in the name of Christ (5:20)
  • Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ (5:21)
  • Wives
    • Be subject to your husbands as to the Lord (5:22)
    • Be subject to your husbands as the church is to Christ (5:24)
  • Husbands
    • Love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her (5:25)




    • Love your wives as yourselves (5:28)
    • Nourish and cherish your wives as Christ does the church (5:29)
    • Love your wife (5:33)
  • Wives, respect your husbands (5:33)
  • Children
    • Obey your parents in the Lord (6:1)
    • Honor your father and mother (6:2)
  • Fathers
    • Do not provoke your children to anger (6:4)
    • Bring your children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (6:4)
  • Slaves
    • Be obedient to your masters with fear, trembling and sincerity of heart, as to Christ (6:5)
    • Do not be men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ do the will of God from the heart (6:6)
    • Serve others as to the Lord and not to men (6:7)
    • Know that you will receive back from the Lord whatever good thing you do for others (6:8)
  • Masters
    • Do the same thing to your slaves (6:9)
    • Give up threatening your slaves (6:9)
    • Know that there is no partiality with God (6:9)
  • Be strong in the Lord and the strength of His might (6:10)
  • Put on the full armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil (6:11)




  • Take up the full armor of God so that you: (6:13)
    • Will be able to resist in the evil day
    • Having done everything, to stand firm
  • Stand firm, having: (6:14-17)
    • Fastened on the belt of truth [Surrounding yourself with truth]
    • Put on the breastplate of righteousness [Believing in your heart in Christ’s righteousness]
    • Shod your feet with the gospel of peace [Walking in the gospel of peace]
    • Taken up the shield of faith [Repelling attacks with faith]
    • Put on the helmet of salvation [Knowing you are saved]
    • Taken up the sword of the Spirit, the word of God [Believing and speaking the word of God]
  • Pray at all times (6:18)
  • Be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for the saints
